Past Performance
-
Our Inception
Poppy’s was first started as a hobby to friends and family to bide time while the COVID pandemic blew over. Our main focus at the time was catering Bengali dishes.
Net Investment: $500
Net Return: $1,500
-
Growing Stage
Poppy’s was starting to grow traction and recognition locally at this stage, with demand slowly starting to outperform supply, and with Poppy’s expanding to our first grocery shelf. We began focussing on niche, high-value products such as boutique South Asian pickles (achar).
Net Investment: $10,000
Net Return: $30,000
-
Experimenting Phase
This was the year where we doubled down on Poppy’s as demand for our achar more than doubled. We invested thousands into experimenting with better systems, labels, containers, equipment, labour, new products, website, and much more. Because of this, we knew that we wouldn’t recoup our investments until the following year, so we aimed to run a neutral fiscal year.
Net Investment: $30,000
Net Return: $30,000
-
Efficiency & Expansion
Now we know what works, so it’s time to consolidate and then expand again. We’ve refined many of our processes, which have resulted in a drastic 65% decrease in expenses, while maintaining product quality and customer service. Moreover, we begin our foray into new types of products, as well as exploring ideas on expanding Poppy’s to a new location.
Net Investment: $10,000 insofar
Net Return: TBD
